Updated: Aug 31, 2025

To honour the founder of the Jesuits, St. Xavier’s College celebrated the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola, which preceded the annual College Day celebrations on 31st of July 2025. After the Mass, everyone gathered in the hall and were greeted with the tunes of our College Anthem. This marked the beginning of the cultural programme, which had several incredible performances lined up from various committees in the College, including the WPA team of the ECC and the Marathi Vangmay Mandal (MVM). From Ragas skillfully sung to set the ambience, to graceful classical dance performances that left the audience stunned. Folk dances that celebrated the uniqueness of various cultures were beautifully performed - and there was still much in store for everyone watching.

After the performances came to an end, Ms. Piyali Unnikrishnan, the ECC Faculty Convenor, introduced the core student committee, while Fr. Vivian Almeida introduced the Student Council for the current academic year. The programme then continued with an address by the I/C Principal, Prof. Dr. Karuna Gokarn. Dr. Vedprakash Mishra, M.D., continued the ceremony with his illustrious speech, which certainly resonated in the hearts of each Xavierite present in the room. Followed by the speech was the distribution of the various scholarships secured by the meritorious students of St. Xavier’s College.

The function ended on a high note with a generous vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of the teams that worked actively to make the function a success, which was followed by the national anthem. To conclude, the College Day Function 2025 not only celebrated the achievements of our students but also marked a triumphant beginning to the vibrant spirit and resilience that defines the indomitable spirit of St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai.
